Commonly Requested State Statues & Town Codes

Dogs Running At Large - Dogs cannot run at large inside the town limits. Dogs must be securely leashed or chained anytime while outside a building, structure, corral, pen or enclosure in which they are kept. Town Code 10-203.

Anti-Noise Regulation - It is a violation of town code to create any unreasonably loud, disturbing, and unnecessary noise. This includes loud music, or loud mufflers. Town Code 11-402.

Weeds - Every owner or tenant of property shall periodically cut the grass and other vegetation commonly recognized as weeds on his property. Grass or weeds over (1) foot tall are in violation of Town Code 13-103.

Golf Carts - Golf carts are prohibited on public streets.
Laws regarding golf carts may be found in Tennessee Code Annotated 55-1-123 and 55-8-101.

Low Speed Vehicle - Low speed vehicles may be operated only on streets where the posted speed limit is thirty-five miles per hour (35 mph) or less. Low Speed Vehicle means any four-wheeled electric or gasoline vehicle, excluding golf carts, whose top speed is greater than twenty miles per hour (20 mph), including neighborhood electric vehicles. Low speed vehicles must comply with the standards in 49 CFR 571.500. Laws regarding low speed vehicles may be found in Tennessee Code Annotated 55-1-122 and 55-8-191.

All-Terrain Vehicles - All Terrain Vehicles may not be operated inside the town limits of Rossville. Laws regarding All-Terrain Vehicles may be found in Tennessee Code Annotated 55-1-103 and 55-10-206.

Parking - On public streets, vehicles must be parked with its right wheels parallel to and within eighteen (18) inches of the right edge or curb of the street. Town Code 15-601.

Parking Prohibited - Town Code 15-604
(1) On a sidewalk.
(2) In front of a public or private driveway.
(3) Within an intersection.
(4) Within fifteen (15) feet of a fire hydrant.
(5) Within a pedestrian crosswalk.
(6) Within twenty (20) feet of a crosswalk at an intersection.
(7)
Within thirty (30) feet upon the approach of any flashing lights.

Inoperative Vehicles - An "Inoperative Vehicle" is defined as a vehicle which is currently not registered or which will not operate under its own power. It shall be unlawful for the owner or person in control of any residential lot in the town to keep any inoperative motor vehicle on a lot or in any street adjacent to the lot for more than ten (10) days unless the vehicle is completely enclosed within a building.
